Rules we build for
Alberta’s Personal Information Protection Act covers private-sector organizations in the province. It requires consent and reasonable purposes, and you must notify the Information and Privacy Commissioner when a breach creates a real risk of significant harm. The province has been consulting on updates to the act.
Alberta has no provincial sales tax, so local sales carry 5% GST. Orders shipped to other provinces take that province’s GST, HST or PST, which your store needs to calculate from the delivery address.
Commercial email and texts need consent, sender identification and a working unsubscribe. Implied consent from a purchase lasts two years and from an inquiry six months, so your CRM should track when each contact opted in.
