Rules we build for
Websites, catalogues and standard terms aimed at Québec customers must be available in French, and the French version can’t be less complete than any other language. Bill 96 tightened these rules, and new requirements on signage, product inscriptions and trademarks took effect on June 1, 2025.
Law 25 requires a person in charge of personal information, a plain-language privacy policy, privacy impact assessments before data leaves Québec, and tracking that identifies, locates or profiles visitors switched off by default. Since September 2024, people can also ask for their data in a structured, portable format.
Sales in Québec carry 5% GST plus 9.975% QST. Businesses outside the province that sell to Québec consumers may need to register for QST with Revenu Québec, so your store should calculate both taxes on every Québec order.
Commercial emails and texts need express or implied consent, clear sender identification and an unsubscribe that takes effect within 10 business days. Keep consent records for your French and English lists alike.
